Draft Screening Assessment Report for 20 Stream 1 Substances

(Public comment period August 14, 2010 to October 13, 2010)

On August 14, 2010, a Notice relating to the release of a draft screening assessment for 20 substances in Stream 1 of the Petroleum Sector Stream Approach (PSSA) was published in the Canada Gazette Part I, Vol. 144 No. 33 and the draft screening assessment was released on this web site (see below).

Stream 1 substances for the Petroleum Sector Stream Approach were identified during the initial triage as site-restricted substances, which are substances that are not expected to be transported off refinery, upgrader or natural gas processing facility sites.

There is a 60-day public comment period associated with this publication. Public comments may be submitted (from August 14, 2010 to October 13, 2010) on the draft screening assessment. Details on how to submit public comments can be found within the Canada Gazette Notice for this group of substances in the table below. Please note that the public comment period will not be extended. Given the Government's commitment to finalizing the screening assessment by the deadline specified below, any information received after the end of the public comment period may not be taken into consideration in the final assessment report.

Draft Screening Assessment Reports for 10 Stream 1 Substances

(Public comment period May 29, 2010 to July 28, 2010)

On May 29, 2010, three Notices relating to the release of draft screening assessments for 10 substances in Stream 1 of the Petroleum Sector Stream Approach (PSSA) were published in the Canada Gazette Part I, Vol. 144 No. 22 and the draft screening assessments were released on this Web site (see table below).

1 No risk management scope documents were prepared for these substances because the proposed conclusion of the draft screening assessment reports is that they do not meet any of the criteria set out under section 64 of CEPA 1999.

Background

Mandatory Section 71 Survey Notice

In order to gather information on the Stream 1 PSSA substances from industry and interested stakeholders, a mandatory survey Notice entitled: Notice with respect to certain high priority petroleum substances, was issued under section 71 of the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999 (CEPA 1999). Industry and interested stakeholders were asked to submit information (by responding to a mandatory survey Notice, if applicable) that could be used to inform risk assessment and to develop and benchmark best practices for risk management and product stewardship. This Notice is binding at law.
