Government Response to Recommendations from the Challenge Advisory Panel from December 2009
This Government Response refers to Panel advice and recommendations as outlined in the Summary Report for the December 14-15, 2009 meeting of the Challenge Advisory Panel.
Response to Panel advice and recommendations
There were no formal recommendations brought forth by the Panel during the December 2009 meeting. However, the Government has taken action consistent with suggestions from the Panel, as described below.
Modifications to the draft screening assessment reports for the Batch 8 substances 
butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA; CAS No. 25013-16-5), benzenepropanoic acid ester (CAS No. 70331-94-1), and MAPBAP acetate (CAS No. 72102-55-7) were made following the December 2009 Panel meeting, consistent with suggestions made by Panel members.
The fact that DTBSBP (CAS No. 17540-75-9) is considered part of a broader category of substances known as alkylphenols that are commonly used as antioxidants and chemical intermediates has been noted in the Risk Management Scope document for DTBSBP. As additional substances in this same broad category of substances will be subject to assessment in an upcoming phase of the Chemicals Management Plan, stakeholders are encouraged to identify whether potential alternatives to DTBSBP would also be considered part of the alkylphenols category.
It was not feasible to incorporate information on a range of analogue substances in the draft screening assessment report for DTBSBP. However, consideration will be given to the use of a range of analogue substances for assessment of DTBSBP, rather than a single substance, when the final screening assessment report is developed.
